INTENDED USE
Qualitative detection of the pregnancy hormone relaxin in serum or plasma collected from dogs and cats, for veterinary point-of-care use. It aids in confirming pregnancy and in distinguishing true gestation from pseudopregnancy in the bitch or queen. Results must be interpreted together with clinical signs, breeding history, and other diagnostics such as ultrasonography.
PRINCIPLE
The RLN Rapid Test is a lateral-flow immunochromatographic assay based on colloidal gold labeling. The test cassette contains a nitrocellulose membrane with a test (T) line pre-coated with capture antibody and a control (C) line. When the processed serum or plasma sample is added to the sample well, it migrates by capillary action. If the target relaxin is present, it binds the gold-conjugated antibody and is captured at the T line, forming a visible colored band. The C line should always appear, confirming the assay ran correctly. Results are read visually by the naked eye within the stated time; no instrument is required.
SPECIMEN
Use serum or plasma collected from the animal. Allow whole blood to clot and separate serum promptly; for plasma, use an appropriate anticoagulant (e.g., EDTA, heparin, or citrate). Avoid hemolysis and store samples cool; test fresh or refrigerate if analysis is delayed.
