INTENDED USE
For the qualitative detection of Giardia duodenalis antigen in feces collected from dogs, intended for veterinary point-of-care use. It aids in the diagnosis of giardiasis, a protozoan intestinal infection causing diarrhea. Results must be interpreted together with clinical signs and other diagnostics; cyst shedding may be intermittent, so repeat testing can be considered.
PRINCIPLE
The C-GIA Ag Rapid Test is a lateral-flow immunochromatographic assay based on colloidal gold labeling. The test cassette contains a nitrocellulose membrane with a test (T) line pre-coated with capture antibody and a control (C) line. When the processed feces is added to the sample well, it migrates by capillary action. If the target Giardia antigen is present, it binds the gold-conjugated antibody and is captured at the T line, forming a visible colored band. The C line should always appear, confirming the assay ran correctly. Results are read visually by the naked eye within the stated time; no instrument is required.
SPECIMEN
Use fresh fecal material collected from the rectum with the provided swab or from a fresh stool. Mix the swab thoroughly in the assay buffer to release antigen, allow large particles to settle, and use the supernatant. Use fresh samples and avoid contamination.
