INTENDED USE
Qualitative detection of Dirofilaria immitis (heartworm) antigen in whole blood, serum, or plasma collected from dogs, for veterinary point-of-care use. It aids in the diagnosis of canine heartworm disease. Results must be interpreted together with clinical signs and other diagnostics; a negative result does not rule out early or low-level infection.
PRINCIPLE
The CHW Ag Rapid Test is a lateral-flow immunochromatographic assay based on colloidal gold labeling. The test cassette contains a nitrocellulose membrane with a test (T) line pre-coated with capture antibody and a control (C) line. When the processed whole blood, serum, or plasma is added to the sample well, it migrates by capillary action. If the target Dirofilaria immitis antigen is present, it binds the gold-conjugated antibody and is captured at the T line, forming a visible colored band. The C line should always appear, confirming the assay ran correctly. Results are read visually by the naked eye within the stated time; no instrument is required.
SPECIMEN
The test uses canine whole blood (EDTA or heparin anticoagulated), serum, or plasma. Collect by venipuncture using appropriate anticoagulant for whole blood, or allow clot and centrifuge for serum or plasma. Use fresh samples; avoid hemolysis and excessive lipidemia, mix well, and bring to room temperature before testing. Do not freeze samples unless planned for storage.
