Description
This test qualitatively detects antibodies against FMDV non-structural proteins in serum or plasma from susceptible livestock (cattle, pigs, sheep, goats). INTENDED USE
Qualitative detection of antibodies against foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) non-structural proteins in serum or plasma from susceptible livestock (cattle, pigs, sheep, goats), for veterinary point-of-care use. Because non-structural proteins are expressed only during viral replication, these antibodies help differentiate infected from vaccinated animals (DIVA). Results must be interpreted together with clinical signs, vaccination history, and other diagnostics.
PRINCIPLE
The FMD NSP Rapid Test is a lateral-flow immunochromatographic assay based on colloidal gold labeling. The test cassette contains a nitrocellulose membrane with a test (T) line pre-coated with FMDV non-structural protein antigen and a control (C) line. When the processed serum or plasma sample is added to the sample well, it migrates by capillary action. If antibodies against FMDV non-structural proteins are present, they bind the gold-conjugated anti-antibody and are captured at the T line, forming a visible colored band. The C line should always appear, confirming the assay ran correctly. Results are read visually by the naked eye within the stated time; no instrument is required.
SPECIMEN
Use serum or plasma collected from the animal. Allow whole blood to clot and separate serum promptly; for plasma, use an appropriate anticoagulant. Avoid hemolysis and store samples cool; test fresh or refrigerate if analysis is delayed.
