INTENDED USE
Qualitative detection of Feline calicivirus (FCV) antigen in ocular, nasal, or oral secretions collected from cats, for veterinary point-of-care use. It aids in the diagnosis of feline upper respiratory tract disease and oral ulceration. Results must be interpreted together with clinical signs and other diagnostics such as PCR.
PRINCIPLE
The FCV Ag Rapid Test is a lateral-flow immunochromatographic assay based on colloidal gold labeling. The test cassette contains a nitrocellulose membrane with a test (T) line pre-coated with capture antibody and a control (C) line. When the processed ocular, nasal, or oral secretion is added to the sample well, it migrates by capillary action. If the target Feline calicivirus antigen is present, it binds the gold-conjugated antibody and is captured at the T line, forming a visible colored band. The C line should always appear, confirming the assay ran correctly. Results are read visually by the naked eye within the stated time; no instrument is required.
SPECIMEN
The test uses ocular, nasal, or oral secretions collected from the cat with a sterile swab. Gently swab the conjunctiva, nasal cavity, or oropharynx and place the swab into the provided extraction buffer to elute the sample. Use fresh secretions and avoid gross contamination with blood or debris; mix the extraction well before applying it to the device.
