INTENDED USE
Qualitative detection of Giardia duodenalis antigen in feline feces, for veterinary point-of-care use. It aids in the diagnosis of giardiasis, particularly in cats with chronic or intermittent diarrhea. Results must be interpreted together with clinical signs, as intermittent cyst shedding can cause false negatives.
PRINCIPLE
The FGIA Ag Rapid Test is a lateral-flow immunochromatographic assay based on colloidal gold labeling. The test cassette contains a nitrocellulose membrane with a test (T) line pre-coated with capture antibody and a control (C) line. When the processed fecal sample is added to the sample well, it migrates by capillary action. If the target Giardia duodenalis antigen is present, it binds the gold-conjugated antibody and is captured at the T line, forming a visible colored band. The C line should always appear, confirming the assay ran correctly. Results are read visually by the naked eye within the stated time; no instrument is required.
SPECIMEN
The test uses a fresh fecal sample collected from the cat. Transfer a small amount of feces into the provided extraction buffer using the swab and mix thoroughly to prepare the sample. Use fresh stool and avoid excessive contamination; note that Giardia shedding can be intermittent.
