INTENDED USE
Qualitative detection of antibodies to Feline herpesvirus-1 (FHV-1) in whole blood, serum, or plasma from cats, for veterinary point-of-care use. A positive result indicates prior exposure or vaccination and reflects immune status rather than active infection. Results must be interpreted together with clinical signs and vaccination history.
PRINCIPLE
The FHV Ab Rapid Test is a lateral-flow immunochromatographic assay based on colloidal gold labeling. The test cassette contains a nitrocellulose membrane with a test (T) line pre-coated with FHV-1 antigen and a control (C) line. When the processed whole blood, serum, or plasma is added to the sample well, it migrates by capillary action. If anti-FHV-1 antibodies are present, they bind the gold-conjugated antigen and are captured at the T line, forming a visible colored band. The C line should always appear, confirming the assay ran correctly. Results are read visually by the naked eye within the stated time; no instrument is required.
SPECIMEN
The test uses whole blood, serum, or plasma obtained from the cat. Use fresh, non-hemolyzed samples and handle blood aseptically. Allow samples to reach room temperature and mix well before application; store serum or plasma appropriately if not tested immediately.
