INTENDED USE
Qualitative detection of transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV) antigen in feces collected from pigs, for veterinary point-of-care use. It aids in the diagnosis of transmissible gastroenteritis, a highly contagious viral enteritis causing acute watery diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration with high mortality in young piglets. Results must be interpreted together with clinical signs, age of affected animals, and other diagnostics, since other swine enteric coronaviruses can produce similar disease.
PRINCIPLE
The TGE Ag Rapid Test is a lateral-flow immunochromatographic assay based on colloidal gold labeling. The test cassette contains a nitrocellulose membrane with a test (T) line pre-coated with capture antibody and a control (C) line. When the processed fecal sample is added to the sample well, it migrates by capillary action. If TGEV antigen is present, it binds the gold-conjugated antibody and is captured at the T line, forming a visible colored band. The C line should always appear, confirming the assay ran correctly. Results are read visually by the naked eye within the stated time; no instrument is required.
SPECIMEN
Use a fresh fecal sample collected from the rectum or freshly passed feces of the pig. Transfer the sample into the provided assay buffer and mix thoroughly to suspend particulate matter. Avoid dry or old feces and test promptly, as delayed handling may reduce reliability. Do not use contaminated or excessively desiccated samples.
