INTENDED USE
The Veterinary Cortisol Test Kit is a fluorescence immunoassay intended for the quantitative determination of cortisol concentration in canine and feline serum or plasma. It is designed as an aid in the evaluation of adrenal gland function and in the diagnosis and monitoring of hyperadrenocorticism (Cushing’s disease) and hypoadrenocorticism (Addison’s disease). Results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical signs and other endocrinologic tests. For veterinary use only.
PRINCIPLE
The test employs a competitive fluorescence immunoassay format suitable for the small-molecule hormone cortisol. Cortisol in the specimen competes with a fluorescently labeled cortisol analog for a limited number of binding sites on anti-cortisol antibodies immobilized on the nitrocellulose membrane at the test line (T line). The unbound fluorescent conjugate is captured at the T line, so the resulting fluorescence intensity is inversely proportional to the cortisol concentration in the sample. A control line (C line) verifies the assay procedure. A fluorescence analyzer reads the T-line/C-line signal ratio and converts it into a quantitative cortisol value.
