INTENDED USE
The Canine Babesia Antibody (Bab Ab) Test kit is a fluorescence-based immunoassay intended for the qualitative detection of antibodies against Babesia spp. in canine whole blood, serum, or plasma. It assists veterinarians in screening for Babesia exposure (including B. canis and B. gibsoni) and in supporting the clinical diagnosis of canine babesiosis, especially when compatible signs such as fever, anemia, or thrombocytopenia are present. A positive result indicates exposure but does not differentiate active infection from previous exposure; clinical correlation is recommended.
PRINCIPLE
The test employs an indirect fluorescence immunoassay format. Recombinant Babesia-specific antigens are immobilized on the nitrocellulose membrane. If present, anti-Babesia antibodies in the sample bind to the immobilized antigens; a secondary antibody conjugated with fluorescent nanoparticles then binds canine IgG, forming a detectable complex at the test (T) line. A control (C) line confirms assay validity. A portable fluorescence reader quantifies the T/C fluorescence intensity ratio, yielding a qualitative (or semi-quantitative S/CO) result.
