INTENDED USE
Qualitative detection of antibodies against Avian Leukosis Virus (ALV) in whole blood, serum, or plasma from birds, for veterinary point-of-care use. It aids in identifying birds exposed to ALV, an oncogenic retrovirus causing lymphoid leukosis and tumors. A positive result indicates past or current exposure/immune status rather than necessarily active infection, and should be interpreted with flock history and other diagnostics.
PRINCIPLE
The ALV Ab Rapid Test is a lateral-flow immunochromatographic assay based on colloidal gold labeling. The test cassette contains a nitrocellulose membrane with a test (T) line pre-coated with capture antigen and a control (C) line. When the processed whole blood/serum/plasma is added to the sample well, it migrates by capillary action. If ALV-specific antibodies are present, they bind the gold-conjugated antigen and are captured at the T line, forming a visible colored band. The C line should always appear, confirming the assay ran correctly. Results are read visually by the naked eye within the stated time; no instrument is required.
SPECIMEN
Use fresh whole blood, serum, or plasma from birds. Collect blood by venipuncture; if using serum/plasma, allow whole blood to clot (serum) or use anticoagulant (plasma) and separate promptly. Mix well before application. Avoid hemolysis; test fresh or store refrigerated (2–8 °C) if delayed.
