INTENDED USE
Qualitative detection of Avian Leukosis Virus (ALV) antigen in whole blood, serum, or plasma from birds, for veterinary point-of-care use. It aids in detecting active ALV infection and viremia in flocks, supporting eradication and biosecurity programs. Results must be interpreted together with clinical signs and other diagnostics such as ELISA or PCR.
PRINCIPLE
The ALV Ag Rapid Test is a lateral-flow immunochromatographic assay based on colloidal gold labeling. The test cassette contains a nitrocellulose membrane with a test (T) line pre-coated with capture antibody and a control (C) line. When the processed whole blood/serum/plasma is added to the sample well, it migrates by capillary action. If ALV antigen (group-specific p27) is present, it binds the gold-conjugated antibody and is captured at the T line, forming a visible colored band. The C line should always appear, confirming the assay ran correctly. Results are read visually by the naked eye within the stated time; no instrument is required.
SPECIMEN
Use fresh whole blood, serum, or plasma from birds. Collect blood by venipuncture; if using serum/plasma, allow whole blood to clot (serum) or use anticoagulant (plasma) and separate promptly. Mix well before application. Avoid hemolysis; test fresh or store refrigerated (2–8 °C) if delayed.
