INTENDED USE
Qualitative detection of antibodies against foot-and-mouth disease virus serotype A in serum or plasma collected from cattle, for veterinary point-of-care use. It indicates prior exposure to or vaccination against FMDV serotype A rather than active infection. Results must be interpreted together with clinical signs, vaccination history, and other diagnostics.
PRINCIPLE
The B.FMDV-A Ab Rapid Test is a lateral-flow immunochromatographic assay based on colloidal gold labeling. The test cassette contains a nitrocellulose membrane with a test (T) line pre-coated with capture antigen and a control (C) line. When the processed serum or plasma is added to the sample well, it migrates by capillary action. If the target anti-FMDV serotype A antibody is present, it binds the gold-conjugated antigen and is captured at the T line, forming a visible colored band. The C line should always appear, confirming the assay ran correctly. Results are read visually by the naked eye within the stated time; no instrument is required.
SPECIMEN
Use fresh serum or plasma collected from cattle by venipuncture. Allow blood to clot and centrifuge, or collect into an anticoagulant tube and separate plasma promptly; avoid hemolysis. Mix well before application and do not use severely hemolyzed samples.
