INTENDED USE
Qualitative detection of antibodies against Babesia gibsoni in serum or plasma collected from dogs, for veterinary point-of-care use. It indicates prior exposure to or infection with B. gibsoni rather than confirming active parasitemia. Results must be interpreted together with clinical signs, blood smear findings, and other diagnostics.
PRINCIPLE
The BG Ab Rapid Test is a lateral-flow immunochromatographic assay based on colloidal gold labeling. The test cassette contains a nitrocellulose membrane with a test (T) line pre-coated with capture antigen and a control (C) line. When the processed serum or plasma is added to the sample well, it migrates by capillary action. If the target anti-Babesia gibsoni antibody is present, it binds the gold-conjugated antigen and is captured at the T line, forming a visible colored band. The C line should always appear, confirming the assay ran correctly. Results are read visually by the naked eye within the stated time; no instrument is required.
SPECIMEN
Use fresh serum or plasma collected from the dog by venipuncture. Allow blood to clot and centrifuge, or collect into an anticoagulant tube and separate plasma promptly; avoid hemolysis. Mix well before application and do not use severely hemolyzed samples.
