INTENDED USE
Qualitative detection of Newcastle disease virus antigen in tracheal, cloacal, or fecal samples collected from chickens and other birds, for veterinary point-of-care use. It aids in the diagnosis of Newcastle disease, an acute, highly contagious viral infection. Results must be interpreted together with clinical signs, flock history, and other diagnostics; recent vaccination can affect interpretation.
PRINCIPLE
The NDV Ag Rapid Test is a lateral-flow immunochromatographic assay based on colloidal gold labeling. The test cassette contains a nitrocellulose membrane with a test (T) line pre-coated with capture antibody and a control (C) line. When the processed secretion is added to the sample well, it migrates by capillary action. If the target Newcastle disease virus antigen is present, it binds the gold-conjugated antibody and is captured at the T line, forming a visible colored band. The C line should always appear, confirming the assay ran correctly. Results are read visually by the naked eye within the stated time; no instrument is required.
SPECIMEN
The test uses fresh tracheal or cloacal secretions, or feces, from birds collected with a swab. Swab the trachea or cloaca (or collect fresh feces) and elute into the provided assay buffer. Use fresh samples and test promptly; mix the eluate well and avoid collecting excessive fecal material, which can disrupt flow.
