This test qualitatively detects Canine Parainfluenza Virus (CPIV) antigen in canine ocular, nasal, or anal secretions. INTENDED USE
Qualitative detection of canine parainfluenza virus antigen in secretions collected from dogs, for veterinary point-of-care use. It aids in the diagnosis of canine parainfluenza, a common contributor to kennel cough and respiratory disease. Results must be interpreted together with clinical signs and other diagnostics; a negative result does not exclude infection if sampled outside the shedding window.
PRINCIPLE
The CPIV Ag Rapid Test is a lateral-flow immunochromatographic assay based on colloidal gold labeling. The test cassette contains a nitrocellulose membrane with a test (T) line pre-coated with capture antibody and a control (C) line. When the processed secretion is added to the sample well, it migrates by capillary action. If the target canine parainfluenza virus antigen is present, it binds the gold-conjugated antibody and is captured at the T line, forming a visible colored band. The C line should always appear, confirming the assay ran correctly. Results are read visually by the naked eye within the stated time; no instrument is required.
SPECIMEN
The test uses fresh ocular, nasal, or anal secretions from dogs, collected with a swab. Swab the conjunctiva, nasal cavity, or anus and elute into the provided assay buffer. Use fresh samples and test promptly; mix the eluate well before applying to the device and avoid contaminating the swab.
