INTENDED USE
Qualitative detection of feline coronavirus (FCoV) antigen in fecal samples collected from cats, for veterinary point-of-care use. It aids in identifying enteric coronavirus shedding, which is common and usually asymptomatic. A positive result indicates active fecal shedding rather than a diagnosis of feline infectious peritonitis, and results must be interpreted together with clinical signs and other diagnostics.
PRINCIPLE
The FCOV Ag Rapid Test is a lateral-flow immunochromatographic assay based on colloidal gold labeling. The test cassette contains a nitrocellulose membrane with a test (T) line pre-coated with capture antibody and a control (C) line. When the processed fecal sample is added to the sample well, it migrates by capillary action. If the target feline coronavirus antigen is present, it binds the gold-conjugated antibody and is captured at the T line, forming a visible colored band. The C line should always appear, confirming the assay ran correctly. Results are read visually by the naked eye within the stated time; no instrument is required.
SPECIMEN
Collect a fresh fecal sample directly from the cat. Avoid contamination with urine or litter, and test the sample as fresh as possible. If immediate testing is not possible, keep the sample cool and protect it from excessive heat.
