INTENDED USE
Qualitative detection of Feline infectious peritonitis virus (FIPV) antigen in feline feces or ascitic fluid, for veterinary point-of-care use. It aids in the investigation of suspected FIP, a systemic disease caused by feline coronavirus mutation. Results must be interpreted together with clinical signs and other diagnostics.
PRINCIPLE
The FIP Ag Rapid Test is a lateral-flow immunochromatographic assay based on colloidal gold labeling. The test cassette contains a nitrocellulose membrane with a test (T) line pre-coated with capture antibody and a control (C) line. When the processed feces or ascites is added to the sample well, it migrates by capillary action. If the target Feline infectious peritonitis virus antigen is present, it binds the gold-conjugated antibody and is captured at the T line, forming a visible colored band. The C line should always appear, confirming the assay ran correctly. Results are read visually by the naked eye within the stated time; no instrument is required.
SPECIMEN
The test uses fresh feces or ascitic fluid collected from the cat. For feces, transfer a small amount into the provided extraction buffer with a swab and mix thoroughly. For ascites, apply the fluid directly with the provided buffer. Use fresh samples and mix well before application.
