INTENDED USE
Qualitative detection of transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV) antigen in whole blood, serum, or plasma collected from pigs, for veterinary point-of-care use. It aids in the on-farm screening and monitoring of transmissible gastroenteritis, a contagious viral enteritis causing diarrhea and high mortality in piglets. Results must be interpreted together with clinical signs, fecal antigen testing where appropriate, and other diagnostics, since antigen detection alone does not rule in or out active infection.
PRINCIPLE
The TGE Ag Rapid Test is a lateral-flow immunochromatographic assay based on colloidal gold labeling. The test cassette contains a nitrocellulose membrane with a test (T) line pre-coated with capture antibody and a control (C) line. When the processed whole blood, serum, or plasma is added to the sample well, it migrates by capillary action. If TGEV antigen is present, it binds the gold-conjugated antibody and is captured at the T line, forming a visible colored band. The C line should always appear, confirming the assay ran correctly. Results are read visually by the naked eye within the stated time; no instrument is required.
SPECIMEN
Use fresh porcine whole blood, serum, or plasma. For serum or plasma, collect by venipuncture and centrifuge as appropriate; for whole blood use an anticoagulated sample. Avoid hemolyzed or contaminated samples, which may affect the result. Mix gently and test promptly; if delayed, store the sample at 2–8 °C for a short period or freeze for longer storage.
